The job increase marks the first employment gain of the year, as the economy continues to adjust to U.S. tariffs.MTY Food profit jumps: The owner of Cold Stone Creamery and Mr. Sub posted higher first‑quarter profit, despite missing revenue estimates. Montreal-based MTY Food group reported net income of nearly $37 million, up sharply from a year ago. The jump was largely driven by foreign exchange gains. However, the company did miss revenue expectations, as it saw a decline in corporate store sales in the United States.Corus revenue drops: Revenue in the latest quarter at Corus Entertainment came in below estimates. The Toronto-based media company reported a 15 per cent drop in consolidated revenue, with its television business the biggest drag. However, Corus did see its overall loss narrow from a year ago, with the CEO saying the company is making meaningful progress on key initiatives despite ongoing industry and macroeconomic pressure.Cascades cuts profit forecast: Cascades has lowered its first‑quarter earnings outlook by more than ten million dollars. The Quebec-based paper and packaging company says the revision reflects weather disruptions in the U.S.., higher transportation and fuel costs, and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. However, Cascades says it remains committed to its long‑term goal of delivering $100 million in improved profit by the end of 2026.Income through options: Investors are often told to wait for the right price. But what if waiting could generate income? Using options, investors can get paid while targeting lower entry points on high-quality stocks.
