Singapore's Safe-Haven Status Being Put to Test Amid Mideast Conflict -- Market Talk

0402 GMT - Singapore's safe-haven status is being put to the test as the Middle East conflict continues, DBS Group Research analysts say in a report. The city-state's equities have outperformed their regional peers since the conflict began at the end of February. Singapore's banking heavyweights have played a key role in the Straits Times Index's outperformance as investors focused on the potential expansion of net interest margins rather than growth risks. However, if the conflict continues and oil prices rise toward $150 a barrel or higher, concerns about growth could outweigh the benefits of higher net interest margins, DBS says.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
