West Wits Mining (ASX:WWI) said it has implemented a fuel security strategy to support operational continuity at its Qala Shallows project in South Africa, securing about 163,000 liters of diesel to provide up to four months of operational fuel coverage, according to a Monday Australian bourse filing.
The company said on-site diesel storage capacity is being increased to about 63,000 liters, with operations remaining on track and no disruption expected under current production plans.
The company is targeting a grid power connection for the fourth quarter of the year, expected to materially reduce diesel consumption and operating costs, with diesel currently representing about 8% of operating costs and expected to fall to about 3% following grid connection.
The company's shares rose 2% in recent Monday trade.
