WPP Takes Step in Right Direction, But Has Long Road Ahead -- Market Talk

0922 GMT - WPP's strategic overhaul seems a step in the right direction, but the U.K. advertising company will need to deliver on its plans to win over investors, UBS's Jo Barnet-Lamb and Ashna Gautam say in a note. "We think the market needs to see the company deliver on guidance, improved net new business and prove the effectiveness of these initiatives before becoming more positive on the stock," the analysts say. The industry is facing questions, which poses risks to WPP's plan, UBS says. The company aims to stabilize the business this year to pave the way for a return to growth in 2027 and an acceleration in 2028. UBS cuts its target price on WPP's stock to 210 pence from 280 pence. Shares fall 5.3%. (adria.calatayud@wsj.com)
