During the National Day holiday, production and construction at Sanmen Nuclear Power did not pause. As of 0:00 on October 5, the cumulative safe power generation of Units 1 and 2 of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Phase I project has exceeded 150 billion kWh, equivalent to saving more than 42 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 110 million tons.
It is understood that Unit 1 of Sanmen Nuclear Power was successfully connected to the grid for the first time on June 30, 2018, and officially entered commercial operation on September 21 of the same year, becoming the world's first completed AP1000 unit and also China's first completed third-generation nuclear power unit. In April 2024, the two units of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Phase I project cumulatively achieved 100 billion kWh of safe power generation, and in just over two years they broke through from 100 billion kWh to 150 billion kWh.
Currently, Units 1 and 2 of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Phase I project are operating stably at full power, delivering a steady stream of clean electricity to the East China Power Grid, while preparations for fuel loading of Unit 3 of Phase II are advancing as planned, laying the foundation for subsequent commercial operation. "We are steadily advancing according to the layout of 'two units in operation, two under construction, and two about to start construction,'" said a relevant person in charge of Sanmen Nuclear Power. After all six units are completed and put into operation, Sanmen Nuclear Power's annual power generation will reach 60 billion kWh, with annual carbon dioxide emissions reductions of about 45 million tons, which will make greater contributions to promoting the adjustment of Zhejiang Province's industrial structure and energy structure and serving the national "dual carbon" strategic goals.
