Stock Track | Dell Technologies Plummets 5.02% Intraday as AI Server Margin Concerns and Sectoral Weakness Deepen

Dell Technologies Inc. shares plummeted 5.02% during intraday trading on Wednesday, accelerating losses from the prior session’s brutal sell-off that erased over 14% of the company's market value. The drop marked the stock's largest single-day decline since April of last year, as broad-based weakness across the computer hardware, storage, and peripherals sector continued to rattle investors.

Multiple headwinds are fueling the rout. The global PC market unexpectedly turned negative in the second quarter, with shipments down 4% year-over-year after five consecutive quarters of growth; Dell's own shipments fell 6%, underperforming the overall market. At the same time, concerns are mounting over the profitability of the company’s AI server business, as the high cost of securing advanced processors and aggressive pricing for cloud service contracts compress margins. The AI PC upgrade cycle is also progressing slower than anticipated, while surging storage chip prices are pushing up system costs and squeezing hardware margins.

Broader market sentiment has soured amid a technology sector sell-off. Reports that a Chinese state-backed entity is mass-producing a chip-making tool previously monopolized by ASML intensified competition fears, dragging down AI infrastructure names. The high interest rate environment continues to compress enterprise IT budgets, further clouding the demand outlook. With institutional investors shifting focus from revenue growth to earnings quality, Dell is facing a significant de-risking phase that has pushed the stock through key technical support levels.
