A guest who checked into a hotel in Hunchun, Jilin Province, on August 7 reported discovering a yellowed pillow core with extensive stains, according to information obtained by a news outlet on August 11.

The guest said they noticed the stains after smelling an unusual odor on the bed, leading them to inspect the pillow. "I sat up all night and left early the next morning," the guest recounted.

A hotel staff member attributed the stains to oxidation of the pillow core and stated that new pillow cores had been ordered for replacement. The hotel manager suggested the discoloration might have been caused by hair dye from a previous guest, noting that part of the room fee had already been refunded through the booking platform. The manager said they would further investigate the guest's concerns.

The guest confirmed that the platform had refunded the room fee and stated they did not seek compensation, but urged the hotel to improve its cleanliness standards. Meanwhile, the Hunchun Health Bureau said a preliminary investigation indicated the issue might be related to the hotel's purchase of the pillow core, and an investigation is ongoing.
