Stock Track | Ashland Soars 5.72% Intraday on Q2 Profit Return Despite Analyst Target Cuts

Stock Track
May 01

Ashland's stock surged 5.72% during intraday trading on Thursday, marking a significant upward movement for the specialty chemicals company.

The sharp rise appears to be driven primarily by the company's reported return to profitability in its second quarter of 2026. According to earnings analysis, Ashland posted net income of $15 million on revenue of $482 million for Q2 2026, reversing from a loss of $14 million in the previous quarter. This positive earnings performance tests the bearish narrative that had focused on the company's trailing 12-month net loss of $685 million.

Despite the positive earnings news, analyst actions presented a mixed picture. Wells Fargo maintained its Equal-Weight rating on Ashland but cut its price target to $50 from $60, while JP Morgan also reduced its target price to $65 from $70. The market's positive reaction suggests investors may be focusing more on the quarterly earnings improvement than on the analyst target reductions.
