Berkshire Q2 Net Income Surges 107% to $25.67B; Buybacks Hit $4.5B

Saturday, August 8, Berkshire Hathaway reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $101.808 billion, up from $92.515 billion a year earlier. Net income reached $25.667 billion, more than doubling from $12.37 billion in the same period last year, representing a year-over-year increase of over 107%.

Q2 operating earnings after taxes increased 16% in the second quarter to $12.983 billion on strength at the company's railroad, energy and manufacturing, service, and retailing unit. The earnings gain also reflected one-time currency gains in the second quarter that compared with currency losses in the year-earlier period.

On a per-share basis, net earnings for Class A stock were $17,868 in the second quarter, compared with $8,601 a year ago. Class B stock net earnings were $11.91 per share, up from $5.73 in the prior-year period.

At the end of the second quarter, Berkshire's cash position decreased to $365.51 billion. During the quarter, the company repurchased approximately $4.5 billion of its own shares.

As of June 30, 66% of the total fair value of equity portfolio was concentrated in five companies: American Express, Apple, Bank of America, Alphabet, and Coca-Cola.
