The $38 billion hedge fund Balyasny Asset Management has hired Andrew Tsai from PDT Partners to lead the firm's investment teams outside the United States.
A person familiar with the matter revealed that the 54-year-old Tsai will take on this newly created role at the firm founded by Dmitry Balyasny. Tsai is set to join Balyasny in November, serving as Chief Executive Officer for International Operations, and will be based in London.
The hedge fund employs over 1,000 staff internationally, representing approximately 40% of its total workforce.
Tsai has been a long-time partner of Pete Muller, the founder of quantitative hedge fund PDT Partners, which Muller spun out from Morgan Stanley in 2012. Tsai has been a Managing Director and a member of the senior leadership team at PDT since early 2020.
