Biopharmaceutical Firm Reapplies for Hong Kong Listing Amid Ongoing Financial Losses

According to a disclosure by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on June 8, Hangzhou Highlight Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. has submitted an application for listing on the Main Board. China International Capital Corporation Hong Kong Securities Limited and CMB International Capital Limited are acting as the joint sponsors. The company had previously filed a listing application on December 4, 2025.

Highlight Pharmaceutical is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. To date, the company has internally discovered seven small molecule drug candidates, primarily intended for treating autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases. This portfolio includes four candidates in clinical stages and three selected candidates in preclinical stages.

Within its autoimmune disease pipeline, the company has two clinical-stage candidates. The core product is TLL-018 (Ginocitinib), a selective TYK2/JAK1 inhibitor. The company is currently conducting two Phase III registration trials in China targeting chronic spontaneous urticaria and rheumatoid arthritis. The other candidate is HL-300, a potent, skin-restricted TYK2/JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor being developed as a topical treatment for mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis.

The neurodegenerative disease pipeline also contains two clinical-stage candidates. These are TLL-041/BHV-8000, a brain-penetrant, selective TYK2/JAK1 inhibitor designed to treat neuroinflammatory diseases including Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease; and HL-400, a brain-penetrant, selective NLRP3 inhibitor targeting Parkinson's disease.

The company has not yet generated any revenue from commercial product sales and has incurred losses throughout its track record period. There is a risk that the company may not successfully develop, commercialize its pipeline products, including the core product TLL-018, or derive meaningful economic value from them.

All manufacturing activities are conducted through contract development and manufacturing organizations to support the drug development process. The company currently outsources manufacturing to several globally recognized CDMOs, which possess extensive expertise in research, development, and production. All collaborating CDMOs are independent third parties.

Regarding significant licensing and collaboration arrangements, the company entered into a license and development agreement with Biohaven for TLL-041/BHV-8000 in 2023, and another with Junyitengchuang for TLL-009. During the track record period, the company's revenue was primarily derived from the out-licensing and collaboration arrangement with Biohaven. In 2025, revenue from the largest customer amounted to RMB 107 million, accounting for 100.0% of the total revenue for that year. No revenue was recorded in 2024 or for the three months ended March 31, 2026.

Financial Performance Overview

For the years 2024 and 2025, and the three months ended March 31, 2026, the company's revenue was approximately RMB 0, RMB 107 million, and RMB 0, respectively.

For the same periods, the company recorded losses for the period of approximately RMB 226 million, RMB 312 million, and RMB 73.121 million, respectively.

Market Context

Autoimmune diseases arise from immune system dysregulation, where immune cells mistakenly attack the body's own healthy cells and tissues. The global market for autoimmune disease drugs has shown a sustained growth trend in recent years. Rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, and chronic spontaneous urticaria drugs constitute a major portion of this market. From 2020 to 2035, the overall compound annual growth rates for the global CSU, RA, and AD drug markets are projected to be approximately 9.8%, 4.2%, and 5.1%, respectively. For the Chinese market over the same period, the projected CAGRs are approximately 14.4%, 15.1%, and 18.7%. In 2025, small molecule drugs accounted for about 25% of the global autoimmune disease drug market, while biologics made up about 75%. In China for the same year, small molecules constituted about 46% of the market, with biologics at about 54%.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a heterogeneous group of neurological disorders characterized by progressive loss of neurons in the central or peripheral nervous system, severely impairing memory, cognition, behavior, sensory function, and motor control. Degenerative central nervous system diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease have become a significant and growing global healthcare burden. Given the high barriers to entry in neurodegenerative drug development, only a limited number of commercial development transactions have been completed in this field. The company's collaboration with the multinational pharmaceutical firm Biohaven is one of the largest transactions by disclosed total value since 2019.
