Anhui province has recently introduced the Action Plan for the Protection of Main Water Conveyance Routes of Major Water Diversion Projects, a comprehensive initiative designed to secure the water supply and water quality of its critical diversion infrastructure. The plan focuses on addressing prominent issues related to ecological safety, water supply security, and engineering integrity along the conveyance routes.

The action plan mandates a thorough, full-coverage inspection and rectification campaign across all identified problem areas. The primary goals are to promote a healthier ecological environment, ensure reliable and safe water supply, and guarantee the stable operation of these essential projects, thereby reinforcing the safety defenses of the entire diversion system.

The protected main conveyance routes include the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project, the Huaihe-to-North Water Transfer Project, and the main canals of the Pishihang Irrigation District, specifically the Pihe and Shihe main canals. Also included are the routes of the Simashan Yangtze River Diversion Project, which spans from the diversion channel through the Chuhe River to the fourth-level pumping station, and the main conveyance routes of the Cihuai Xinhe Irrigation District.

These major diversion projects are vital infrastructure supporting the province's high-quality economic and social development. They play a crucial role in optimizing the allocation of water resources, securing water supply for urban and rural areas, and restoring the ecology of rivers and lakes. The protection initiative will prioritize four key actions: the cleanup and regulation of water areas and shorelines, the enhancement of water supply safety measures, the elimination of hidden dangers in engineering facilities, and the improvement of rectification efficiency for identified problems.

According to the Action Plan, the role of the river and lake chief system will be fully utilized to ensure responsibilities are clearly assigned and strictly enforced. The plan calls for broadening the channels for problem detection, making full use of the smart water conservancy supervision platform to accurately identify and verify issues. Furthermore, it emphasizes strengthening information sharing and conducting joint law enforcement operations to form a cohesive and effective force for governance.
