Data from the National Bureau of Statistics' Guangdong Survey Office released on Wednesday shows that in July 2026, Guangdong's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.9% year-on-year and 0.2% month-on-month.
For the first seven months of the year, the average Guangdong CPI was 0.8% higher compared to the same period last year.
On an annual basis, July's CPI growth of 0.9% was 0.3 percentage points lower than the previous month. Within this, food prices fell by 0.5%, while non-food prices rose by 1.2%. Consumer goods prices increased by 0.8%, and service prices rose by 1.0%.
Looking at the eight major categories, prices showed a pattern of "six increases, one flat, and one decrease" year-on-year. Healthcare costs surged 6.1%, other goods and services rose 4.0%, education, culture, and entertainment increased 2.0%, clothing was up 1.9%, household goods and services rose 1.2%, and transportation and communication costs climbed 1.1%. Prices for food, tobacco, alcohol, and dining out remained unchanged, while housing costs fell 0.3%.
On a monthly basis, July's CPI reversed a 0.2% decline in June to a 0.2% increase. Food prices edged down 0.1%, while non-food prices grew 0.3%. Consumer goods prices slipped 0.6%, but service prices advanced 0.9%.
Among the eight major categories, the month-on-month change was "three increases, one flat, and four decreases." Healthcare costs jumped 4.2%, education, culture, and entertainment increased 1.8%, and household goods and services rose 0.5%. Housing costs remained stable. Transportation and communication fell 1.7%, clothing dropped 0.5%, other goods and services declined 0.3%, and food, tobacco, alcohol, and dining out prices decreased 0.1%.
