A recent entrepreneurial story from Ningxia, where a sheep farm owner uses domestic AI to manage tens of thousands of Tan sheep, has captured widespread public attention. The programmer, known as Lao Zhang, who once worked at a major technology company, made the decision to return to his hometown a decade ago and enter the sheep farming industry.
In the early stages of his venture, Lao Zhang planned to develop a custom farming management system, but outsourcing development teams quoted a price of nearly one million yuan. Combined with his lack of familiarity with farming operations, the project was shelved. This year, however, he turned to domestic AI-assisted development, spending only tens of thousands of yuan on token fees to build a complete "scientific sheep farming system" covering all business processes.
Today, information on feeding, weight tracking, and market-ready alerts for over 10,000 sheep on the farm is managed through the system. Employees can simply upload photos of documents, and the system automatically recognizes and records the data. Procurement, breeding, and financial processes are all signed online via QR codes, achieving a paperless operation. Financial settlement time has been reduced from three to five days down to half a day, significantly easing the burden of farm management.
Tens of thousands versus nearly a million—this move to "write a system for the sheep farm with AI" has not only made sheep raising more scientific but has also saved a substantial amount in costs.
