Data released on August 24 by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance shows that as of the end of July 2026, the total number of EV charging infrastructure points across the country reached 23.683 million, marking a 41.9% increase compared to the same period last year.
Among these, public charging facilities accounted for 5.099 million points, up 21.3% year-on-year, with a total rated power capacity of 255 million kilowatts and an average power per point of approximately 49.97 kilowatts. Private charging facilities totaled 18.584 million points, reflecting a 48.8% surge, with reported installed electricity capacity reaching 160 million kilovolt-amperes.
In terms of regional distribution, the top 10 provinces and municipalities for public charging infrastructure—namely Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai, Fujian, Henan, Anhui, Sichuan, and Hubei—account for 66.2% of the nation's total public charging points. Charging electricity consumption is concentrated mainly in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, and Shaanxi, with power primarily flowing to heavy-duty trucks, ride-hailing vehicles, and passenger cars, while sanitation and logistics vehicles represent a smaller share.
In July 2026 alone, electricity consumption in the charging and battery-swapping service sector reached 16.4 billion kilowatt-hours, growing at a rate of 50.3% and increasing by 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours from the previous month.
Looking at the broader picture for the first seven months of 2026, the incremental addition of charging infrastructure totaled 3.591 million points, a decline of 7.4% year-on-year. This includes 382,000 newly added public charging points, down 38.7%, and 3.209 million new private points, a slight drop of 1.4%.
When comparing charging infrastructure growth with EV adoption, new energy vehicle domestic sales reached 6.098 million units during January–July 2026. The ratio of newly added charging points to new EV sales stands at 1:1.7, indicating that the current pace of charging infrastructure development is broadly sufficient to support the rapid expansion of the new energy vehicle market.
