China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (HKEX: 03996) shares experienced a significant surge in afternoon trading, rising more than 7%. At the time of writing, the stock was up 4.27% to HK$1.22, with a turnover of HK$102 million.

The catalyst for this upward movement was a recent announcement of a major contract. A consortium formed by the company's subsidiaries successfully signed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the Taweelah C Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant project in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The total contract value is approximately $1.687 billion, equivalent to around RMB 11.42 billion.

Key Strategic Achievement

Securing this substantial overseas contract represents a significant strategic achievement for the company as it actively expands its presence in the international energy market. This deal is expected to enhance the company's competitive position within the global energy construction sector.

Recent Operational Milestone

In other recent developments, on May 29th, the A2 data center building within the Gansu Qingyang "East Data, West Computing" Source-Grid-Load-Storage Integrated Smart Zero-Carbon Big Data Industrial Park officially commenced operations. This project was developed under a build-operate-transfer model by the company's subsidiary, China Energy Engineering Group Planning and Engineering Co., with the EPC contract executed by a joint venture involving Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute and China Energy Engineering Group Construction Co.

Upon completion, the A2 data center is capable of supporting a computing power of approximately 40,000 P. This milestone follows the operational launch of the A1 building in September 2024, marking another key step forward in the overall project. It signifies that the company now possesses comprehensive, integrated capabilities across the entire data center business chain, from investment and construction to operation.
