Performance Food Group (PFGC) shares plummeted 5.22% in pre-market trading, as the company's fiscal fourth-quarter results fell short of analyst expectations and its forward guidance disappointed investors.
The food distributor reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.59, missing the consensus estimate of $1.60, while total sales of $18.0 billion came in below the expected $18.088 billion. The bottom-line results were also impacted by a reported net income of $162.3 million. Looking ahead, the company's first-quarter sales guidance of $17.9 billion to $18.1 billion fell short of the $18.135 billion analyst estimate, and its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue forecast of $72.5 billion to $73.0 billion was largely below the consensus of $72.625 billion.
The broader consumer staples sector showed mixed performance, but the earnings disappointment and tepid sales outlook weighed heavily on Performance Food, triggering the steep pre-market decline.
