August 21st saw mainland Chinese equities oscillate higher, with all three major indices advancing in early trade. The ChiNext board jumped over 1%, driven by a surge in optical communications and optical module sectors tied to computing hardware. The so-called "Yi-Zhong-Tian" trio of stocks rose in tandem, and semiconductor names were active, with Silan Microelectronics hitting its daily limit. Themes around tungsten hexafluoride, industrial gases, and helium saw explosive gains. Conversely, biotech sectors pulled back, with innovative drug developers and CRO firms leading the decline.

Hong Kong stocks opened higher and maintained momentum, with both the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng Tech Index climbing in morning trade. Most tech stocks advanced, though Meituan, Alibaba, and Tencent bucked the trend to dip. Chip counters rebounded, while new consumer concept stocks were mixed. POP MART fell over 4%, having plunged as much as 8% at the open. In the bond market, treasury futures rebounded with choppy gains. In commodities, most domestic futures contracts moved higher, with precious metals leading the advance.
