Samsung Display is set to construct a new OLED manufacturing plant in Asan, South Korea, driven by the success of its foldable smartphone business, according to anonymous industry and political sources cited by a Korean financial daily.
The company's investment review committee convened on August 7 and greenlit the civil engineering work for a brand-new A7 factory at the second industrial complex in Asan. Full-scale construction is scheduled to commence next year, with a target completion date set for early 2028.
The robust market performance of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, coupled with growing speculation that Apple may enter the foldable device arena, has fueled expectations for industry expansion. This latest investment forms part of the broader OLED industry roadmap unveiled during the "Major Strategic Projects" initiative in July.
