SK Hynix Shares Briefly Tumble 8.2% as Analysts Cite Profit-Taking and Earnings Outlook Concerns

Shares of SK Hynix Inc experienced a significant drop, declining as much as 8.2% in trading on the Korea Exchange.

An NH Investment & Securities senior analyst noted that following the conclusion of its U.S. listing, investors engaged in profit-taking activities. Concurrently, market sentiment was dampened by cautious expectations regarding the company's second-quarter performance.

The analyst pointed out that while investors had anticipated a ramp-up in shipments of SK Hynix's HBM4 chips starting from the second quarter, this anticipated growth does not appear to have materialized on a large scale.

Furthermore, the analyst explained that investors have revised their earnings forecasts downward. This adjustment is attributed to SK Hynix's higher business exposure to the HBM market compared to its local rival, Samsung Electronics. Consequently, the company is less positioned to benefit to the same extent from the recent price increases seen in the conventional DRAM chip market.
