A newly built pure battery-powered vessel, the "Turing", was safely launched into the waters of the Huanggang section of the Yangtze River on the afternoon of August 9, with full escort from the Huanggang Maritime Safety Office. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the green upgrade of inland river shipping in eastern Hubei's Huanggang region.

The "Turing" is an electric container ship capable of carrying 206 TEUs, including 10 reefer containers. Its propulsion system is powered by two box-type batteries with a combined capacity of approximately 1,999 kWh, a water-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor for the main engine, and an air-cooled asynchronous motor for the generator. The vessel boasts a self-sustaining endurance of 20 days and a cruising range of 25 nautical miles at a design speed of 10 knots.

Given that battery-powered ships represent a new sector in inland river shipping and the complex launch environment posed multiple safety risks—such as hull sliding, towing operations, and navigation conflicts—the Huanggang Maritime Safety Office took proactive measures. Before the launch, the Bahe Law Enforcement Team conducted thorough inspections, reviewed the launch plan and emergency response protocols, and urged the shipyard to fulfill its primary safety responsibilities. Special attention was given to the battery compartments and electrical systems, given the unique characteristics of the vessel.

On the day of the launch, the patrol vessel "Haixun 12294" arrived early to establish a temporary safety zone. Using VHF radio, continuous navigational safety broadcasts were issued, and remote warnings and on-site guidance were provided to passing vessels. Enforcement officers closely monitored critical phases such as sliding, flotation, towing, and berthing, ensuring real-time control of the waterway dynamics to guarantee a safe and controlled launch process.

Looking ahead, the Huanggang Maritime Safety Office will continue to implement green shipping policies, enhance regulatory services for new-type vessels, and strengthen safety assurances for the construction and sea trials of new energy ships, contributing to both waterway safety and the sustainable development of green shipping in the Huanggang section of the Yangtze River.
