SIA Engineering Company (S59) and Air India Limited announced on Jul, 3 2026 the signing of a legally non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to explore co-operation in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services aimed at supporting India’s development as a global aviation MRO hub.
The proposed collaboration follows earlier agreements between the parties: a 12-year Inventory Technical Management agreement announced on Feb, 21 2024 covering component support for Air India Group’s Airbus A320 family fleet, and the appointment disclosed on May, 11 2024 of SIA Engineering as Air India’s base-maintenance strategic partner for facilities in Bangalore.
Under the new MoU, the companies will assess opportunities to deepen their partnership by combining SIA Engineering’s technical capabilities with Air India’s operational network, including the potential establishment of an MRO joint venture in India to serve both domestic and regional airlines.
Chief Executive Officer of SIA Engineering, Chin Yau Seng, stated that the initiative seeks to “jointly develop an MRO partnership that will play an integral role in Air India’s pursuit of operational excellence and potentially serve customers both within and outside the country.” Air India’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, said the agreement supports the need for a “stronger, more self-reliant MRO ecosystem” as India’s aviation sector expands.
The companies emphasised that no definitive agreements have been finalised and there is no certainty that the contemplated transactions will proceed. Further announcements will be made when material developments occur.
Air India is an associated company of Singapore Airlines, which holds a 25.1% stake and is a controlling shareholder of SIA Engineering. Singapore Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer, Goh Choon Phong, also serves on the boards of both SIA Engineering and Air India. No other directors or controlling shareholders of SIA Engineering have interests in the MoU beyond their shareholdings in the company.
