Hyundai Motor Group announced on Monday that it will launch a pilot project involving robots in an apartment complex west of Seoul, aimed at developing an intelligent parking management system.

This initiative operates under the government's smart city regulatory sandbox program, with a consortium formed by Hyundai Motor, its auto parts subsidiary Hyundai Wia, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The project is located at the Hillstate Wave City complex in Siheung, southwest of Seoul. Built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction, the apartment complex has 1,796 units and is expected to welcome residents next year.

Two parking robots from Hyundai Wia will be deployed in the basement-level parking garage of the complex. The robots have a slim body height of just 110 millimeters, allowing them to drive under vehicles, lift the wheels, and transport them to designated parking spots. Equipped with LiDAR sensors, the robots can operate at a maximum speed of 1.2 meters per second and automatically park vehicles weighing up to 3.4 tons, including SUVs.

Hyundai Motor Group stated that the project aims to address the issue of limited parking spaces in residential complexes using robotic technology while enhancing parking safety.
