Key drivers behind the market action

On this day, the three major indices moved in opposite directions: the Shanghai Composite rose 0.19%, the Beijing Stock Exchange 50 climbed 0.91%, and the STAR 50 advanced 0.14%, while the Shenzhen Component fell 0.35% and the ChiNext dropped 1.00%. With roughly 76% of all stocks gaining and 70 hitting the upper limit, a broad rally coexisted with index divergence. Total two-market turnover stood at about 1.8318 trillion yuan, reflecting a contraction of roughly 175.61 billion yuan from the prior session. The non-ferrous metals complex weighed on indices, with precious metals down 3.83%, minor metals off 2.54%, and industrial metals sliding 2.25%. Small household appliances led the upside, with Roborock surging to the 20% daily limit, driving the Shenwan small appliance sector up 8.02% to rank first among second-level industries. Themes such as pharmaceutical CRO, agricultural planting, and digital currency were also active. In new listings, Gaokai Technology surged 282.99% on its debut to close at 235 yuan, compared with its issue price of 61.36 yuan per share.

Hot sectors in focus

1) Small household appliances: Smart hardware and small appliance names led the charge, with the Shenwan small appliance sector jumping 8.02% to top the second-level industry rankings. Roborock hit the 20% limit up. The catalyst came from Roborock's semi-annual report disclosed on the evening of August 24th, showing first-half revenue of 10.084 billion yuan, up 27.60% year-on-year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of 986 million yuan, up 45.60%, with second-quarter net profit surging 61.76% year-on-year.

2) Pharmaceuticals: Medical services and CRO segments strengthened, with the Shenwan medical services sector rising 3.40%. Kailaiying hit the daily limit, Yuhuan Pharmaceutical climbed 9.14%, Hansen Pharma also hit the limit, while Baihua Pharmaceutical, Kaikai Industrial, and Shenqi Pharma followed with gains. The pharmaceutical sector extended its recent run of strength, with CRO and medical services leading the advance.

3) Agricultural planting: Agricultural stocks were robust throughout the session, with genetically modified crops and food security concepts outperforming. Jinjian Rice hit the daily limit (its fifth in seven sessions), while Wanxiang Denong also reached the limit (its third in six sessions). The trigger was the UK Met Office's August 21st forecast that this year's El Ni帽o could be the strongest on modern record, sustaining expectations of reduced crop output.

Declining sectors: Precious metals, minor metals, industrial metals, and energy metals posted the steepest losses, with precious metals down 3.83%, minor metals off 2.54%, and industrial metals sliding 2.25%. Among individual names, Hunan Silver fell 6.02%, Baoding Technology dropped 3.89%, and Silver China declined 1.79%. These segments had enjoyed significant gains in prior sessions (precious metals led the market higher on August 20th and 21st), and Wednesday's pullback reflects clear sector rotation in the market.
