Data released on Monday by the Central Bank of Venezuela indicates that the country's inflation rate for April decreased to 10.6%, down from the previous month's rate of 13.1%. According to information published on the central bank's website, the cumulative inflation rate for the year to date has already reached 90%. Calculations based on the central bank's data reveal an annualized inflation rate of 611.86%.

In an interview on national television, the central bank's acting president, Luis Pérez, stated, "Our economy is healthy and functioning well." He projected that the inflation rate for May could potentially fall to a single-digit figure. Pérez emphasized that the central bank has not manipulated the data to present a more favorable outlook. "We have not cooked the books," he said.

Pérez also added that since Venezuela resumed its relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last month, the current Vice President of Economic Affairs, Calixto Ortega, has been appointed as the country's representative or executive director to the organization.
