From April 27 to 29, the "2026 World Mayors Dialogue · Xi'an" event was held in Xi'an under the theme "Silk Road Origin · Harmony and Coexistence: Technology and Culture Empowering High-Quality Urban Development." Mayors and representatives from cities in Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, and other nations participated.
At Geely Automobile's Xi'an manufacturing base, the efficiency and intelligence of the "lights-out factory" left a strong impression on attendees. "We are exploring ways to drive transformational development, particularly in energy transition," said Jamal Abu Obeid, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Ramsa, Jordan, expressing hopes for deeper cooperation with China in green infrastructure and eco-friendly industries.
The digital presentation of cultural heritage also drew significant interest. At the "Boundless XR Cinema" of the Western Movie Group, guests used head-mounted displays to experience a blend of virtual and real environments. "We are no longer just reading text—we are immersed in history," remarked Abdul Halusi, Deputy Governor of Matrah, Oman.
During the event, participants visited the Chang'an Cloud · Xi'an Science and Technology Museum, the Xi'an Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, and the Xi'an 12345 Citizen Hotline Service Center, observing how Xi'an is advancing refined, intelligent, and efficient governance in its role as a megacity. They also explored sites such as the Xi'an City Wall, the Tang Dynasty Ever-Bright City, and the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, witnessing the integration of historical and cultural resources with urban development.
"I hope to invite Chinese archaeological experts to assist in the preservation and utilization of our historical heritage, using modern technologies like artificial intelligence to uncover more stories behind cultural artifacts," stated Goran Rashid Mohammed, Special Representative of the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
On the evening of April 29, participants jointly released the "World Mayors Dialogue—Xi'an Consensus on Silk Road Urban Development," aimed at enhancing mutual trust and deepening friendships. "Preservation, inheritance, and innovative development are essential tasks for all cities. We are willing to work with cities around the world to deepen exchanges and cooperation in cultural relic protection, cultural heritage, and mutual learning among civilizations, allowing ancient civilizations to thrive anew in the process of urban modernization," said Ye Niuping, Mayor of Xi'an.
