Key takeaways from President Trump's August financial disclosure: he purchased up to $25 million in Meta stock and up to $5 million in SpaceX bonds. The latest disclosure shows that two days after completing that SpaceX bond investment, he signed a new policy aimed at expanding America's commercial space transportation business. Trump continued his frequent trading, reporting a total of 517 securities transactions in August.

On October 7, 2026, in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S. President Trump delivered remarks on matters related to children's personal investment accounts. According to newly disclosed financial documents, President Trump completed more than 500 securities transactions in August, including up to $25 million in Meta stock; he also purchased up to $5 million in SpaceX bonds, an investment made two days before he signed a broad memorandum aimed at expanding the U.S. commercial space transportation system.

Analysis of the August disclosure

Analyzing Trump's August financial disclosure documents (all transactions report only value ranges, not precise figures), the 517 trades totaled roughly $74.3 million to $273.3 million. Estimates put purchases at a minimum of $44.2 million and sales at a minimum of $30.1 million. The 18-page document shows that Trump's portfolio trading remains very active, though somewhat slower than in June and July, when he disclosed more than 1,000 transactions in each of those months.

The largest single transaction of the month was the August 21 purchase of Meta stock, in the $5 million to $25 million range, on a day when he also made large-scale portfolio adjustments. On the same day, Trump reported purchases of AT&T, ConocoPhillips, Abbott, Netflix, and Chevron, each in the $1 million to $5 million range. On the sell side, on August 21 he sold AMD and Church & Dwight (CHD), each in the $1 million to $5 million range; he also reduced holdings in Boeing, Home Depot, T-Mobile, Datadog, Dell, Palo Alto Networks, Nvidia, and other companies, with individual transactions in the $500,001 to $1 million range.

The documents also show a sizable new investment by Trump in SpaceX. On August 18, Trump's account purchased senior unsecured notes issued by the rocket and satellite company, in the $1 million to $5 million range, with a 5.35% coupon maturing in July 2031. Two days later, Trump signed National Security Presidential Memorandum NSPM-17, which sets a goal of supporting more than 1,000 launches and reentries per year for the United States by 2030. The policy requires federal agencies to streamline procedures for commercial companies using federal launch facilities, encourages private capital investment in space infrastructure, and promotes public-private partnerships. SpaceX is a major launch service provider for the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA and stands to be a direct beneficiary under this policy to expand the U.S. commercial launch market.

Trump had previously invested in SpaceX, but on a much smaller scale: in June and July, when SpaceX listings occurred, he purchased $15,001 to $50,000 of SpaceX stock in each month and sold $1,001 to $15,000 in July. The White House and SpaceX did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The White House has repeatedly stated that the portfolio is managed by third parties and that trading decisions are not influenced by Trump or his family.

By contrast, modern previous presidents generally sold individual stocks or used blind trusts and diversified funds to avoid potential conflicts of interest. The new disclosure does not show the precise amounts of Trump's investments; the U.S. federal disclosure system requires only reporting of transaction ranges rather than exact figures.

High-frequency trading has become a notable feature of Trump's second term

June disclosure documents showed more than 21,000 securities transactions cumulatively that year and holdings of at least $858 million; in his first year in office in 2017, he reported only 86 stock trades. The August disclosure shows he continued to build positions in several large U.S. listed companies. On August 10, Trump reported purchases of Microsoft, McDonald's, and Comcast, each in the $1 million to $5 million range. Later, on August 26, Trump's account bought Tyson Foods (TSN) stock in the $15,001 to $50,000 range; on the same day, he signed a proclamation temporarily increasing the low-tariff import quota for 300,000 tons of lean beef trimmings. The policy was aimed at stabilizing beef prices, took effect on September 1, and was valid for up to 90 days. Before the Tyson Foods trade, Trump had already signaled plans to rein in beef prices; the disclosure documents cannot determine whether the Tyson purchase occurred before or after the proclamation was signed.

Trump's account also continued to buy municipal bonds, which has become routine across his disclosures. The August filing included dozens of municipal securities issued by state and local governments, schools, hospitals, housing authorities, and other public institutions.
