The Our Hong Kong Foundation has voiced its support for the Hong Kong government's "AI Efficiency Enhancement Group" as it rolls out its first batch of efficiency-boosting initiatives. Shui Chi-wai, the foundation's Vice President and Executive Director of its Public Policy Institute, has responded to the launch, applauding the administration's pragmatic approach to advancing digital and intelligent transformation.

According to Shui, the inaugural batch consists of 30 projects spanning 13 government departments, touching on areas that directly affect daily life, such as license applications and online appointment bookings. This indicates that the government is methodically embedding artificial intelligence technology into public services. He believes these projects will free civil servants from repetitive tasks, allowing them to devote more time to work that requires human judgment and communication, thereby elevating the overall quality of public service delivery.

Looking ahead, Shui expresses hope that, building on the success of these initial projects, the "AI Efficiency Enhancement Group" will continue to uncover further suitable applications, prioritizing areas with close ties to citizens' daily lives or those hampered by workflow bottlenecks. He also advises the government to establish a performance evaluation mechanism to gauge the real-world impact of these projects on public satisfaction and departmental efficiency. This would ensure that the dividends of digital transformation translate into tangible service improvements that citizens can genuinely perceive.
