Drivers Behind the Rally

The positive momentum is supported by the sector's ongoing efforts to expand its international operations. Guotai Haitong recently approved a proposal to inject RMB 9 billion in capital into its wholly-owned subsidiary, Guotai Haitong Financial Holdings. Separately, CITIC SEC plans to conduct a private placement of RMB 16 billion in the Hong Kong market to its major shareholder, CITIC Financial Holdings, with all proceeds earmarked for developing its international business. Since the beginning of the year, several major brokerages, including GF Securities and Huatai Securities, have completed capital increases for their subsidiaries, signaling that the global expansion of Chinese brokerages is entering a new phase of deeper advancement.

Analyst Outlook and Sector Catalysts

Analysts from Shenwan Hongyuan released a report indicating that the brokerage sector's operating environment continues to improve. The industry is expected to see strong year-on-year profit growth in the second quarter, with some firms potentially achieving sequential quarterly earnings improvements. They note that policy-driven catalysts are materializing and previous market headwinds related to capital flows are subsiding. Furthermore, the sector may see potential positive catalysts across multiple business lines, including technology innovation, wealth management, and overseas operations, which could drive a simultaneous improvement in both earnings and valuations in the second half of the year.
