China's Ministry of Water Resources Sets Out Blueprint for Advanced Satellite Remote Sensing System by 2035

The Ministry of Water Resources has recently released a comprehensive plan for the development and application of remote sensing satellites in the water sector, spanning from 2026 to 2035. The initiative aims to significantly enhance satellite resources by systematically advancing the construction of four key systems: satellite resources, data resources, operational applications, and technological innovation alongside technical standards.

According to the plan, by 2030, a preliminary remote sensing satellite application framework covering major operational areas within the water sector is expected to be established. The ultimate goal is to have a fully developed and robust remote sensing satellite application system in place by 2035.

Achieving this target will lead to a substantial increase in the coverage capacity for sub-meter resolution imagery. This advancement will further improve the capability for rapid monitoring and assessment of major water-related emergency events.
