The world's largest dual-fuel container ship, the "Xinfu 145", departed from Taizhou Port in Jiangsu Province on August 18 following a towing operation, heading to a designated dock for outfitting work. According to the Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration, the super towing fleet for this "giant" vessel stretched more than 740 meters in total length.
The "Xinfu 145" measures 399.9 meters in length overall, 61.3 meters in beam, and 33.5 meters in depth, equipped with an 18,600-cubic-meter membrane-type fuel tank. A single voyage refueled with LNG can cover approximately 20,000 nautical miles. This vessel is the fourth in an order of ten 24,000 TEU-class dual-fuel container ships signed by Jiangsu Yangzi Jiang Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd. in 2023, with a contract value of $238.9 million per vessel. The successive construction and delivery of vessels in this series mark a milestone for Chinese private shipbuilders in achieving batch production of high-end vessel types.
Jiangsu is China's leading province in the shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment industry, with its three major shipbuilding indicators—completed tonnage, new orders, and held orders—consistently ranking at the forefront of the country. The marine engineering equipment and high-tech shipbuilding cluster in Nantong, Taizhou, and Yangzhou is recognized as a national advanced manufacturing cluster by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In recent years, the trend toward larger and more intelligent newly built vessels in Jiangsu has become increasingly pronounced.
Statistics from the Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration show that since the beginning of this year, the administration has escorted a total of 37 newly built vessels exceeding 205 meters in length for sea trials, with a combined deadweight tonnage of 4.79 million tons. Among these, 23 vessels over 270 meters in length were escorted for sea trials, representing a year-on-year increase of 43 percent.
