Leveraged ETF Narrowing Losses After SK hynix Unveils Record 40 Trillion Won Buyback

The Southern East SK hynix Daily Leverage Max 2x Product (07709) saw its losses narrow sharply in Thursday's session, after earlier plunging more than 19%. As of the latest update, the ETF was trading down 6.78% at HK$34.40, with turnover reaching HK$9.5 billion.

On the corporate front, on August 19, SK hynix announced plans to repurchase 40 trillion Korean won worth of treasury shares, with the buyback aimed at share cancellation and enhancing shareholder returns. The semiconductor giant said it intends to expand shareholder returns to over 50% of free cash flow. According to the company, the share repurchase program is scheduled to begin on August 20 and will run for approximately three months.

In the broader market, South Korea's KOSPI index closed 5.80% lower at 6,471.17 points on the day, with SK hynix shares tumbling nearly 10%.
