Eli Lilly has received positive news, as the Canadian Drug Agency has issued a favorable reimbursement recommendation for its moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis treatment, Ebglyss (lebrikizumab).

This development, combined with a letter of intent already established between the pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance and Eli Lilly Canada, paves the way for the drug to be covered by public drug plans across the nation.

Ebglyss received authorization from Health Canada in June 2024 for treating adults and adolescents aged 12 and older, weighing at least 40 kilograms, with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.

The conditional recommendation from CDA-AMC represents another crucial federal-level advancement, following a positive opinion from Quebec's health technology assessment body, INESSS, in August 2024.

Previously, CDA-AMC had issued a preliminary non-reimbursement opinion in November 2024; this new positive outcome follows a resubmission by Eli Lilly based on new information.

Mathilde Merlet, General Manager of Eli Lilly Canada, stated that this step will provide patients across Canada access to an advanced biologic with proven long-term efficacy and a demonstrated safety profile.

Amanda Cresswell-Melville, Executive Director of Eczema Canada, also noted that this positive recommendation is a significant step in expanding treatment options, offering healthcare providers greater flexibility and patients a better opportunity to manage their condition.

The authorization of Ebglyss is supported by results from several key clinical studies, including ADvocate 1, ADvocate 2, and ADhere.

Data indicates the drug can achieve 90% skin clearance and significant itch relief as early as week 4.

Its long-term extension study, ADjoin, further shows that skin clearance and itch relief can be maintained for up to two years, with the latest data supporting sustained efficacy for up to four years.

For investors, the progress of Ebglyss underscores that Eli Lilly's growth extends beyond its weight-loss drugs, with its diversified pipeline continuing to deliver value.

The drug is already reimbursed under Quebec's public drug plan, and this national recommendation is expected to further expand its market reach.
