Lumentum Holdings Inc. (LITE) experienced a sharp 5% decline in pre-market trading, deepening a correction that has seen the stock tumble over 30% from its May highs. The drop comes amid broad-based weakness across the optical communication and semiconductor sectors.
The sell-off was triggered by a broader downturn in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index on July 24–25, which hit optical networking stocks particularly hard. Key names in the space, including Corning, Marvell Technology, and Coherent, each fell more than 3% during the pre-market session, while Ciena declined over 2%. Lumentum itself had already fallen 3.58% during the previous regular trading session, indicating sustained selling pressure.
The weakness reflects ongoing investor caution ahead of Lumentum's upcoming earnings report, expected on August 11 after market close, with consensus EPS estimates at $2.62. The entire Communication Equipment sector showed broad declines, with Arista Networks down 2.16%, Nokia down 2.11%, and Applied Optoelectronics down 4.33%, highlighting sector-wide headwinds.
