Hefei Silicon-Chip Technology Co., Ltd., known as Silicon Chip, has recently completed a B-round financing of over 100 million yuan. This round was jointly led by Gettop Acoustic Co.,Ltd. and other investors, with participation from Huace Film and TV, Su Chuang Tou, Su Jin Kong, Chuang Ling Capital, and Houlang Capital. The funds will be primarily allocated for research into a 10,000-qubit dedicated optical computing cluster and general-purpose quantum computing chip sets.
Founded in 2020 in Hefei, Silicon Chip traces its core technology to the Key Laboratory of Quantum Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by Academician Guo Guangcan of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). The company was co-founded by three individuals: Chen Wei, a Changjiang Scholar and executive director of the Department of Optics and Optical Engineering at USTC; Ren Xifeng, a National Outstanding Youth Fund recipient and deputy director of the key laboratory; and Ding Yuyang, a USTC PhD researcher specializing in photonic quantum chips since his doctoral studies. The core team boasts over 20 years of accumulated expertise in integrated photonic quantum technologies, all originating from the Guo Guangcan team at USTC.
Currently, Silicon Chip has established a comprehensive technology layout spanning from core photonic quantum devices to complete system solutions. According to Ding Yuyang, the company's general manager, the founding vision was to "utilize photonic quantum chip technology to make quantum cryptography, quantum sensing, and quantum computing practical and deployable." In November 2024, at the Quantum Technology Industry Conference, Silicon Chip unveiled a universal programmable quantum computer based on silicon photonic integrated chips, which can be accessed via a cloud platform. This system is the only optical quantum computing machine in China capable of running general-purpose quantum algorithms.
