Micron Technology (MU) surged 5.05% in pre-market trading on Tuesday, rebounding sharply from the prior session's steep decline of over 5%. The rally was fueled by a confluence of positive catalysts, including a credit rating upgrade from Moody's, the reaffirmation of a key partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC), and an upbeat industry report highlighting Micron's growing market share in the global DRAM market.

Moody's upgraded Micron's senior unsecured bond rating to BAA1 with a stable outlook, reflecting the chipmaker's significantly strengthened financial position amid robust AI-driven demand for memory chips. Separately, Taiwan's PSMC confirmed that its cooperation with Micron will proceed as planned, despite the recent passing of its chairman, easing concerns about potential disruptions to their long-term contract manufacturing deal for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips. Additionally, a Counterpoint Research report revealed that Micron's DRAM revenue has surged roughly fivefold since the second quarter of 2025, positioning the company to overtake SK Hynix as the world's second-largest DRAM supplier. The report also noted that Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have already completed the allocation of part of their 2027 production capacity ahead of schedule, underscoring the persistent tightness in the memory market driven by AI server demand.

The pre-market advance marks a strong recovery for Micron, whose shares had fallen over 30% from their all-time high in late June, pressured by concerns over future supply growth, peaking memory prices, and competitive dynamics. The combination of a credit rating upgrade, partnership stability, and bullish industry data appears to have restored investor confidence, driving the stock higher in early trading.
