Hebei's inaugural offshore solar power initiative has achieved a major milestone by officially connecting to the national electricity network.

The 500-megawatt pilot project, developed by China Huadian in Changli, has been successfully integrated into the grid.

This undertaking represents a crucial component of the larger 1,800-megawatt Qinhuangdao offshore solar demonstration project, marking it as the first of its kind in the province to reach this operational stage.

Located in the offshore waters near the Luanhe River estuary in Changli County, the installation occupies a total maritime area of 7025 mu and utilizes a fixed-pile foundation structure for its solar arrays.

The project was constructed by Huadian Qinhuangdao New Energy Co., Ltd., with an installed capacity of 465.6 megawatts, and includes a supporting 220-kilovolt onshore booster station.

To ensure the safe and timely grid connection, power grid experts conducted multiple on-site inspections by boat, verifying submarine cable routes and the configuration of grid-connected equipment at the booster station while providing technical guidance.

A dedicated green channel was established for processing the new energy connection, utilizing online platforms to handle applications, which significantly shortened the approval timeline.

Upon reaching full operational capacity, the Changli offshore solar project is projected to generate approximately 770 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

This clean energy output is estimated to save 231,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 694,800 tons each year, substantially lowering regional carbon emissions while providing a stable supply of green power to areas including Qinhuangdao and Tangshan.
