Northern Star Resources Ltd (NST.AU) saw its shares plummet 5.02% during intraday trading on Thursday, following renewed pressure from activist investor Elliott Management.
The U.S.-based investment firm, which disclosed an over A$1 billion stake in the Australian gold miner last week, called for immediate action to restore shareholder value. Elliott Management stated that Northern Star must strengthen its board and undertake a formal strategic review that would evaluate all alternatives, including a potential sale.
Elliott criticized the company's board, saying its recent letter "indicates that it does not understand the magnitude of change required to win back shareholders' trust." The activist investor has been pushing for changes citing Northern Star's underperformance compared to industry peers.
