D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS) experienced a pre-market plunge of 5.21% on Tuesday, as the market reacted to the company's first-quarter financial results.
The quantum computing systems provider reported Q1 revenue of $2.86 million, a significant miss compared to the analyst consensus estimate of $4.14 million. This represents a dramatic 81% decline from the $15.0 million in revenue reported for the same quarter last year. The company attributed this sharp drop to the absence of a large, one-time annealing quantum computer system sale that was recognized in the prior-year period.
Furthermore, D-Wave's net loss widened to $18.36 million, or $0.05 per share, compared to a net loss of $5.42 million, or $0.02 per share, in the year-ago quarter. While the company highlighted a nearly 2,000% year-over-year surge in bookings to $33.4 million, driven by major contracts, investors appeared to focus on the weak top-line performance and expanding losses during the pre-market session.
