Tai'an City Government Saves 1.17 Million Yuan Through Solar Power

According to Dazhong Daily, solar panels installed on the roof of the Tai'an municipal government building in Shandong Province have recently begun generating electricity, saving 1.17 million yuan in electricity costs and becoming the first certified "zero-carbon government office" in Shandong. Furthermore, during peak electricity pricing hours, the government building can sell electricity and actively participate in the electricity spot market, a first for government agencies nationwide.

The roof of the building is covered with photovoltaic panels. Sources from Tai'an Daily indicate that the trend of government buildings adopting "photovoltaic blue" has emerged in many places, and "strengthening energy-saving and carbon-reduction renovations for existing buildings and municipal facilities" has been included in the 15th Five-Year Plan. For example, in Puyang, Henan Province, as of the end of September 2025, the city's public institutions had completed 220 rooftop photovoltaic projects, with an installed capacity exceeding 70,000 kilowatts, expected to generate 85 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and save 28,000 tons of standard coal.

In Tai'an, Shandong, the municipal government building is located at the foot of Mount Tai, where the city's Party committee and government offices are co-located. At the end of 2025, the Tai'an Municipal Government Affairs Service Center initiated a zero-carbon transformation of the office complex, bringing in 16 million yuan in social capital from Shandong Taikai DC Technology Co., Ltd. to focus on implementing three core modules: energy-saving renovation, "source-grid-load-storage," and a smart management and control platform. In addition to laying 2,497 photovoltaic panels on the roof with a total installed capacity of 1.6 megawatts, a solid-state transformer acts as the "energy hub"—if the solar output on the east building is insufficient, power from the west building is immediately dispatched; when sunlight is excessive at noon, surplus electricity is automatically stored in battery cabinets for release when needed. Moreover, the direct current generated by the photovoltaic panels can be directly connected to the building's internal grid.

Additionally, during peak electricity pricing hours, the government building can sell electricity and also meet the vehicle charging needs of office staff. Local officials stated that the significance of the Tai'an Municipal Center's rooftop photovoltaic grid connection lies not only in the "green transformation" of a single government building but also in demonstrating the leading role of Party and government agencies to catalyze the city-wide green and low-carbon transition.
