Official data from the China Meteorological Administration indicates a significant acceleration in the transition of low-altitude economy weather support from research and development to operational application within the country this year.
Currently, a low-altitude 3D real-time wind field product with a 5-meter spatial resolution and a 5-minute update frequency has been extended to 17 provinces. The total number of meteorological products designed for the national low-altitude economy has reached 53, covering more than 150 application scenarios across 10 categories, including public services, traffic operations, and emergency rescue.
For drones with short flight durations and limited operational ranges, traditional meteorological products offering hectometer-level resolution and hourly updates are insufficient to accurately depict wind field variations between buildings, within valleys, or at different flight altitudes.
In response to this specific demand, the research team at the China Meteorological Administration refined their product targets to achieve a horizontal resolution of 5 meters, a vertical resolution of 2 meters, and a 5-minute update frequency. By integrating diverse data sources such as LiDAR wind measurement and urban canopy parameters, the team overcame challenges related to data quality control, urban wind field model construction, and cross-disciplinary data fusion, successfully transitioning the meter-level low-altitude 3D real-time wind field product from concept to practical application.
