Japan's government and central bank are set to establish a study group this summer to advance the development of a 24-hour settlement system for stocks and government bonds, built on blockchain technology.

The initiative, reported by media sources citing unnamed officials, will also include participants from Japan's Financial Services Agency, the Ministry of Finance, and multiple financial institutions.

The proposed framework could be finalized as early as the start of 2027, marking a significant step toward modernizing the country's financial market infrastructure.
