Maersk reported its second-quarter financial results for 2026, showing strong performance driven by robust market demand, rising spot freight rates for sea transport, and comprehensive growth across all business segments. Based on the actual second-quarter results and higher visibility into operations for the remainder of the year, the company announced an upward revision to its full-year financial guidance. Maersk now expects the global container shipping market to grow by approximately 4% in volume for the full year of 2026.
According to the financial report, global transport and logistics demand remained resilient during the second quarter of 2026. Sea freight spot rates saw a significant increase during the reporting period, driven by strong market demand, worsening trade flow imbalances, tight capacity, and heightened port congestion in Europe, the Middle East, the east coast of South America, and West Africa. In the ocean shipping segment, Maersk reported a 23% increase in revenue and a notable improvement in profitability.
