Kakao Announces Split of Core Operations to Boost AI Focus

South Korean internet giant Kakao revealed on Friday its intention to divide its primary operations, which encompass the widely-used messaging platform KakaoTalk, into two separate entities as part of a strategy to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities. According to a regulatory filing, the proposal to separate the company into KakaoAI and KakaoX received approval during a board meeting.

Kakao aims to finalize the split by January 1 of the upcoming year, with KakaoAI scheduled for relisting on January 27.
