Three Nights of Live Music and Guiyang's Premier Football Tournament: Traffic Adjustments Announced for Guanshanhu District Starting Friday

Deep News
Aug 21

Starting this weekend, the Guiyang Stadium, also known as the "Little Giant Egg" (Phase II of the Olympic Sports Center), will host three consecutive concerts from Friday, August 21st, through Sunday, August 23rd. Each performance, running from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, is expected to draw an audience of 10,700 people, with 3,500 in the inner field and 7,200 in the stands, totaling roughly 32,100 attendees across the three nights. Adding to the congestion, August 21st also marks the opening ceremony and first match of Guiyang's "City Super League," meaning the combination of the concerts, football matches, and Friday evening rush hour will create a surge in travel demand, significantly extending peak traffic periods.

In light of the recent traffic patterns around the Olympic Sports Center, Guiyang traffic police have issued the following analysis and forecast. Residents are advised to familiarize themselves with road conditions and plan their travel routes in advance to avoid delays.

Traffic Congestion Analysis and Predictions

During the concert dates, a substantial influx of vehicles and pedestrians will head to both the Guiyang Stadium and the Olympic Sports Center. Combined with the "City Super League" opening ceremony audience and market crowds on August 21st, parking demand in the surrounding areas will spike. The concentrated entry and exit of crowds, interwoven with vehicle flow, will increase travel delays on roads near the Olympic Sports Center, leading to short-term traffic slowdowns.

The increase in cross-district traffic will cause the congestion index for the Guanshanhu District road network to rise compared to usual, with August 21st being the most affected day due to the combined impact of the concert, the "City Super League," and the Friday evening rush hour. Based on historical traffic data and the location of the Olympic Sports Center, the following predictions have been made:

During the pre-concert entry and post-concert exit periods, roads surrounding the Olympic Sports Center, including Shilin East Road, Xingzhu Road, and Cuiliu Road, are expected to see their congestion index rise above 4.0, indicating short-term severe congestion. Meanwhile, Shilin West Road, Aoxing Road, and Guanqing Road are projected to see their index climb above 2.0, reaching a state of traffic congestion. On August 21st, with the concert coinciding with the "City Super League" opening, pressure on Yuntan South Road, Aoxing Road, Shilin East Road, and surrounding parking areas will be significantly higher than for regular events.

Referencing the traffic situation during similar events this year, it is expected that from 4:30 PM onwards, before the concert entry begins, the number of people heading to the Olympic Sports Center for the concert and the "City Super League" opening will rise rapidly. Traffic flow on Yuntan South Road, Aoxing Road, and Shilin East Road will gradually increase, putting more pressure on road capacity. By around 6:15 PM, congestion on these roads is expected to worsen, with the congestion index exceeding 3.0 and peaking above 4.0. Between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, as the audience finishes entering, congestion on Shilin East Road and Yuntan South Road will ease, with the index dropping below 1.5. After the concert ends around 11:00 PM, short-term road congestion will reappear, and the index on Shilin East Road, Aoxing Road, and Yuntan South Road will climb once again.

Affected by the concert and the "City Super League" opening, cross-regional through-traffic heading to the Olympic Sports Center will increase, raising pressure on major access routes. Roads such as Beijing West Road, Guanshan East Road, Qianlingshan Road, Shubo Avenue, and Jinyang South Road are expected to experience worsened traffic slowdowns between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM before the events begin. August 21st falls on a Friday, and with more people attending the concert, the "City Super League" opening, visiting the market, and going out for the evening, traffic pressure on roads leading to Guanshanhu District will be significantly higher than usual. Drivers heading to the district should prepare accordingly.

Please bring the original ID card matching your purchase information. It is recommended to arrive before 5:00 PM to take advantage of staggered check-in times, especially on Friday, August 21st. When leaving, follow the guidance of on-site staff and exit through the designated gates—Inner Field Gates A, B, C, and D, or Stand Gates 1 through 4—and do not linger inside the venue. During the event period, Guiyang traffic police will strictly enforce drunk-driving checks around the Olympic Sports Center. Remember: if you drink, do not drive.
