Visa has announced the accelerated global expansion of its interest-driven Visa Destinations program, which is now active in 10 travel markets. This move coincides with the rapid growth of the experience-based travel economy and signifies Visa's strategic evolution beyond payments, integrating into the entire journey of discovery, planning, and experience for travelers.
Research from Visa indicates that travelers are increasingly motivated by personal passions, pursuits, and unique experiences when selecting destinations, rather than geography alone. A recent Visa study highlights this trend in the Asia-Pacific region, where consumer travel intent is strongly interest-driven: 66% of respondents plan to travel across borders for global concert tours, and 54% intend to travel for sporting events. Concurrently, major cultural events and significant sporting competitions are becoming powerful magnets for international visitors, driving economic growth for host destinations.
The travel demand in Asia-Pacific remains robust, but travelers' expectations for each trip continue to rise. According to T. R. Ramachandran, Head of Products and Solutions for Asia-Pacific at Visa, the company's Global Travel Intentions Study reveals that modern travelers are more discerning, preferring trusted destinations while seeking greater flexibility and convenience in planning. The appeal of authentic local experiences is also growing stronger. Visa Destinations is expanding to popular global locations, leveraging the company's insights and network to redefine how memorable experiences are accessed and to create new opportunities for partners within the travel economy.
The Visa Destinations program is currently available and continuously curating experiential content in 10 locations: Paris, London, Dubai, Milan, Rome, Mexico City, New York, Miami, San Francisco, and Thailand.
Designed with a mobile-first approach, the platform is exclusively for Visa cardholders. Upon enrollment, cardholders can enhance their itineraries with curated perks spanning dining, entertainment, culture, hotels, wellness, shopping, and transportation. These benefits include exclusive viewing experiences, priority access to venues like the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at New York's Rockefeller Center and the Louvre Museum in Paris, as well as expert-recommended dining options. Premium cardholders, including those with Visa Infinite and Visa Signature cards, enjoy access to even more extensive, upgraded benefits and tailored travel experiences.
