Shares of Kratos Defense & Security Solutions surged 5.66% intraday, driven by a wave of positive catalysts including significant new contract awards and strategic production expansions.
The company recently secured two major sole-source prime contracts from the U.S. government. The first is an approximately $156 million contract from the Department of Energy's Office of Secure Transportation for mobile counter-drone systems. The second is an approximately $100 million contract for a space domain awareness system. These awards underscore Kratos's growing position in critical defense technology areas.
On the operational front, Kratos opened a 167,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in York, Pennsylvania, with plans to invest over $7 million in new equipment. The company is also expanding its Oklahoma City facility to accelerate production of its Valkyrie, Firejet, and other jet drone systems, and completed its $50 million hypersonic payload integration facility in Indiana ahead of schedule. Adding to the positive sentiment, Wedbush initiated coverage with an Outperform rating and an $85 price target, while JPMorgan upgraded the stock to Overweight. The rally also comes as investors position themselves ahead of the company's quarterly earnings report.
