OpenAI, which previously recruited heavily from Salesforce to bolster its enterprise AI product push, is now witnessing a reverse migration as several sales personnel opt to return to their former employer, intensifying instability within its corporate sales division.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Peter Doolan, who served as Slack's chief customer officer before joining OpenAI in April, has accepted an offer to go back to Salesforce. The move follows last week's decision by Karyn Voss, who oversaw sales operations in the Americas, to leave OpenAI and also rejoin Salesforce.
These departures come on the heels of OpenAI's announcement earlier this month that it had appointed Dali Rajic, president and chief operating officer of Wiz, a cybersecurity firm under the Alphabet umbrella, to succeed Dennis Dresser as its new chief revenue officer.
Dresser had originally brought Doolan, Voss, and other Salesforce employees on board to construct OpenAI's enterprise sales team, as the AI company sought to shed its consumer-focused chat product image and close the gap with Anthropic in the enterprise AI sales arena.
Doolan served as global head of AI transformation at OpenAI, having spent a decade at Salesforce before moving to its communications app Slack as chief customer officer. Sources indicate that during Dresser's tenure, the sales team was expanded threefold, and enterprise sales accelerated following the launch of OpenAI's latest model, GPT-5.6, in July.
