A recent price comparison study by a U.S. business consultancy reveals that Kroger offers the lowest-priced basket of private-label essential food items among the nation's four major supermarket chains, outperforming rivals including Walmart, Aldi, and Albertsons.

The analysis compared prices for 15 staple private-label goods, such as milk, bread, eggs, chicken breast, pasta, canned beans, and baking supplies, across these retailers. The total cost for purchasing all 15 items at Kroger was $30, placing it first. Walmart followed closely with a total of $30.95, while Aldi and Albertsons ranked third and fourth with totals of $33.15 and $35.58, respectively.

The study further noted that Kroger had the lowest price among the surveyed companies for 10 of the 15 analyzed products, including canned diced tomatoes, pasta, sugar, and a dozen large eggs. The report also mentioned that Aldi maintains a strong price advantage in its private-label dairy products.

Industry analysts highlight that as inflationary pressures drive up living costs, U.S. consumers are increasingly seeking high-value food options, intensifying price competition among major retailers over private-label essentials. Headquartered in Ohio, Kroger operates approximately 1,229 supermarkets across 16 states and leverages its supply chain and procurement scale to secure a competitive market position.
