Installed Building Products (IBP) stock plummeted 21.46% intraday on Thursday following the release of its first-quarter financial results.

The sharp decline was driven by the company's Q1 earnings and revenue missing analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.79, falling short of the consensus estimate of $2.10, while revenue of $660.5 million missed the expected $668.7 million. The results were impacted by a significant downturn in the residential market, with same-branch sales within the installation segment falling 11.2% due to challenging regional weather and macroeconomic uncertainty affecting U.S. consumer sentiment and new home sales activity.

Furthermore, the company faced margin pressure from higher vehicle-related expenses and increased medical and general liability insurance costs. Despite double-digit growth in commercial installation sales, the overall weak performance in its core residential construction business led to the substantial sell-off during the trading session.
